General:
The largest movement of displaced people through Europe’s borders since World War Two occurred in 2015. During that year, 1.1 million crossed into Turkey, and one million migrants made a dangerous journey across the Mediterranean. Around 850 000 crossed via Turkey to Greece. This year, in 2016, several thousands of migrants arrived in Greece and have been unable to travel on through Europe because of closed borders with neighbouring countries.
- The Psychosocial Support Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring and reporting activities, as well as managing volunteers and other Psychosocial Support staff. The Psychosocial Support Officer will be the Hellenic Red Cross focal point for this sector in the area of concern.
ROLE PURPOSE:
- Conduct workshops to strengthen the capacity of the Hellenic Red Cross staff and volunteers in Psychosocial Support, Psychological First Aid, Stress management and other relevant topics alongside with the Red Cross Psychosocial Support delegates.
- Ensure the quality and frequency of the psychosocial support activities in cooperation with appropriated staff.
- Provide a minimum of monthly team meetings for psychosocial support activity volunteers.
- Implement, supervise and monitor the quality and quantity of the psychosocial activities in place in the designated area of work, with support from the psychosocial delegates and psychosocial coordinator. It includes continuity of current activities and development and implementation of new ones.
i. Activities can include but are not limited to: identification of individuals with vulnerabilities, case management and referrals, managing of child friendly
spaces and women safe spaces where applicable, psychological first aid, counselling, support groups, recreational and educational activities.
ii. Psychosocial Support officers working in the areas with Child Friendly Spaces must provide Weekly activity Plans
- Assess and identify the evolving needs for psychosocial support in order to adapt activities accordingly.
- Ensure adequate data collection, including ODK.
- Monitor and report psychosocial support activities to Psychosocial Support coordinator/delegate weekly.
- Report on suspected abuses and issues of concern regarding harmful practices and behaviours.
- Participate in relevant local coordination groups and share the minutes with PSS coordinator/delegate and field coordinator.
Scope of the Role:
- The job duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the Post holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.
- Actively work towards the achievement of the goals of the organization.
- Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross/Red Crescent principles.
- Contribute to a positive team environment and service excellence to meet the needs of beneficiaries.
- This position will be hired by the IFRC and seconded to the Hellenic Red Cross.
Requirements for the Role:
- Relevant University Degree
- Good Computer Skills (word, excel, Outlook)
- Fluently spoken and written English and Greek is a prerequisite
- Experience within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement will be preferred
