One PhD student Stavros Niarchos Foundation - FORTH Fellowship within the project ARCHERS: Advancing Young Researchers’ Human Capital in Cutting Edge Technologies in the
Preservation of Cultural Heritage and the Tackling of Societal Challenges Exclusively funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation
The Laboratory of Geophysical Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeoenvironment (GeoSat ReSeArch Lab) of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), in the framework of the project ARCHERS, aimed at reducing or even reversing the brain drain, which is funded by an exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, is seeking to recruit one (1) PhD student.
Job Description
Main objective of this research is to develop novel algorithms and techniques for joint processing and inversion of electrical resistivity and seismic geophysical data that aim to highlight signals derived from environmental and archaeological applications
Eligibility Criteria
- BSc degree in Geosciences (Geology or Mineral Resources Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering)
- MSc degree in Applied Geophysics
- Good knowledge of Greek and English language
Desirable qualifications
- Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of the undergraduate studies (30 %)
- Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of the M.Sc. studies (30 %)
- Hands on experience with Electrical Resistivity Tomography, seismic reflection and refraction and MASW methods (15%)
- Experience with computer programming (e.g. MATLAB, C) and geophysical processing software (e.g. RES2DINV, DC_2DPRO, Geoplot, Oasis Montaj, SPSS) (15%)
- Publications in high impact peer-review journals or/and in national and international conferences (10%)
Location: FORTH, Rethymno, Crete, GREECE
Start Date: 1rst of August, 2017
Duration of appointment: 12 months (with possibility of extension according to the needs of theproject).
